About my jewelry

Each original, one of a kind piece starts with a rescued vintage silk tie (from an estate sale, flea market, forgotten drawer) that lights me up just to look at it. The colors and design captivate me and the silky softness lures me in. Discovering a lost, forgotten treasure and bringing it new life and beauty is symbolic of discovering lost parts of one's self and shining them out into the world. There is something deeply satisfying about rescuing beautiful vintage silk from obscurity and bringing it back to life.  Matching a stone for each unique design is where the creativity begins. When it's right, the stone and silk sing together and both are even more beautiful when paired. Wearing these happy creations brings me joy (and compliments). I wish the same for you!

Preparing the Silk

Each tie is de-structured, gently washed, air dried and pressed, then hand-sewn into neck bands or cuffs using long lasting thread. The silk bands are gently pressed again and ready to be matched with a stone.

Choosing the Stones

I find most of my stones at the famous Tucson Gem Show, a month long sevent in Arizona with vendors from all over the world.  From semi-precious to the occasional rare and precious, if they feel as good as they look, I bring them home.

Creating the Piece

Adding the clasps and toggles, wiring the stone, connecting the chain is a slow, meditative process that requires patience and precision. Creating with our hands is a lost art and I am grateful to be part of this time honored tradition of jewelry making.

The Felt Test

When a silk neck band or cuff is finished, I try it on to be sure it feels as good as it looks. Do I feel better wearing it (empowered, creative, protected, happy)? Is it healing in some way? If yes, it's a part of the collection. Sometimes it's hard letting these pieces go, but seeing others appreciate them as much as I do is what it's all about.
